Support the St. Vital Mustangs in building a new turf football field

We are excited to announce a game-changing project that will transform our beloved St. Vital Mustangs football club. We are seeking your support to raise $300,000 to complete the construction of a state-of-the-art turf football field. We have secured most of the funding through the generous help of our three levels of government, but we need your help!

With your generous donations, we can create a home field that will inspire greatness and provide countless opportunities for aspiring athletes in our community.

Why a Turf Football Field?

A turf football field offers immense benefits that go beyond aesthetics. It provides a consistent playing surface, enabling our players to develop their skills with precision and confidence. Unlike traditional grass fields, turf fields are weather-resistant, ensuring that our games and practices can continue even during inclement weather. Moreover, a new turf field will enhance player safety, reducing the risk of injuries and ensuring a long-lasting infrastructure for years to come.

How Can You Make a Difference?

We believe that every contribution counts, no matter the size. By visiting our website, you can easily click the donation button and make a financial contribution towards this transformative project. Your support will go directly towards the construction, installation, and maintenance of the turf field, ensuring a top-notch playing surface for our dedicated athletes.

Special Recognition for Generous Donors

To show our heartfelt appreciation for donations above $1,000, we will offer special recognition on our permanent donor wall. Your name, or the name of your business, will forever be a symbol of your commitment to the growth and development of our community through the St. Vital Mustangs football club. Your generosity will inspire future generations of athletes and demonstrate the power of collective support.

Join Our Winning Team

As an amateur football club, we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses like you to bring our vision to life. Your donation will not only make a lasting impact on our club but also contribute to the overall well-being of our community. By investing in our turf field project, you are investing in the growth, health, and success of young athletes who dream of reaching their full potential.

"Heather's classes are a complete joy! Whether you are new to yoga or experienced, Heather creates a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Her classes teach you to be kind to yourself, listen to your body and most importantly have FUN! I find Heather's yoga class a great way to recalibrate my mind and body."
Jessi M

"Heather is truly a special instructor and person, both qualities that make classes with her phenomenal. I've been taking class with her virtually for a few years. Even over Zoom, she energetically cultivates a warm, welcoming, and safe environment to play and try new things, always with careful attention to people's individual needs. I have rheumatoid arthritis and Heather always offers me comfortable modifications that help me fully engage in class, anticipating my needs before I even realize I need them. It is so encouraging to do things I never thought I would do again. I leave Heather's class - every single time - with an aura of joy, increased confidence, and a beautiful sense of peace."
Talia K

“Heather is a deeply caring and patient yoga instructor. She embraces each student’s strengths and limitations, encouraging everyone to practice at their best ability. For me, Heather’s gentle yet supportive approach to her teaching practice allows me to confidently progress each and every class, even on the days where I don’t feel as strong.”
Evan T

“I have enjoyed attending Heather’s yoga classes for over a year now. She is calm and pleasant, attentive to the needs and concerns of each member in the class, and able to provide a variety of modifications for meeting you where you’re at on that day or in your yoga journey. Never shying away from challenging you, Heather is also great at encouraging you to exceed your own expectations through a discipline of practice. Stick to it with her, and you’ll quietly exceed your own yoga goals and expectations!”

Winnipeg Free Press Announcement

Bruce Covernton

We are deeply saddened to share news of the passing of alumnus Bruce Covernton.

Big Tuna was a legendary figure here in Manitoba and his resident province of Alberta. Originally from Morris, Bruce grew up in Fort Garry and after playing many sports was eventually recruited to play football for the Fort Garry Lions. Prior to the 1986 season, Bruce joined the St Vital Mustangs Organization and played two seasons for the Junior team. He was part of the 1987 National Finalists and recently inducted into the St Vital Mustangs Hall of Fame.

His size and athleticism resulted in Bruce attending Weber State University on a football scholarship, where he was a first team All-American and All-Big Sky Conference at Weber State University. Bruce was invited to attend the NFL Combine in 1991.

The Calgary Stampeders of the CFL selected Bruce in the first round of the 1992 Canadian College Draft where he was selected first pick overall. Covernton was voted the West’s top rookie in 1992 and top offensive lineman in 1993. Covernton was a valuable part of the Grey Cup championship teams in 1992 and 1998. He twice earned division All-Star honours and was All-CFL in 1993. Bruce retired from playing in 1998 as a Grey Cup Champion and a 7-year Stampeder.

Bruce had a good life in Calgary after his playing days. In addition to being the owner and CEO of a staffing company, he did a lot for his community and was involved in many local charities.

He created many fond and funny memories for all of those who saw him working security at Scandals back in the day and always made time for all who knew him. There really was no one like Bruce — he truly was a legend of a man.

The Board of Directors would like to send out our condolences to all of Bruce’s family and friends.

Rest in Peace
