FAQ

REGISTRATION: When does football registration take place?

Football registration for most teams is held during the first week of May. In 2013 the registration dates are Thursday May 2nd to Saturday May 4th.  Full registration info is posted on the home page of our website. For further registration enquiries you can email the club registrar Gail Bialek at either: gbialek@shaw.ca or registrar@mustangsfootball.ca

Can I use a post-dated cheque for the equipment deposit?

You can use a personal post-dated cheque for the equipment deposit and volunteer time depositNOTE: Personal Cheques are NOT accepted for payment of registration & cash calendar fees (Mastercard, Visa, debit, and cash only).

When does the season start and end?

The MMFA season (ages 7-14) starts roughly in mid August. Practices often begin approximately 2 to 3 weeks prior to the season (late July to early August). This is determined by the head coach of the team and varies.

For example, in 2012 the MMFA regular season began on August 12th and ran until September 30th. Playoffs began October 6th and concluded with Championship Weekend October 27th to 28th.

Can my child play on the same team with his/her friend or request to be on a specific team?

You may make a request when you register but we cannot guarantee we will be able to accommodate it when dividing the players into teams.

This is our 1st season of football. What should we expect?

Each age level is different and our players range from 7 to 22 years of age. Please view the various pages on the website for more information or use the search box on the top-right area of the home page.

CLICK HERE for information about each specific age group (incuding highlight videos from past seasons).

What is the time commitment for players?

This depends on your coach however the average is 2 to 3 evenings per week (Monday to Friday) for practices and one game per week once the season begins. A weekend practice is possible depending on the circumstances but typically the weekends are left free for family time in the summer and games during the season.

For example, a Terminator team (ages 7 & 8 years of age) might practice twice a week and play one game on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday). An older age group such as PeeWee (11 & 12) or Bantam (13 & 14) would typically practice 3 to 4 times per week and play one game on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday).

How do I get more information about who to contact with a question?

The Mustangs Football Club utilizes several email addresses. Please view our Board of Directors page and email the appropriate member (President, Football Operations, Concessions, Registrar, Marketing, Volunteers, etc).  If you are unsure who to contact, use our Contact Us form and your enquiry will be directed to the appropriate person. You can also call the club at 204-257-5242 and leave a message. However, email will typically be the quickest method to get a response.

Is there a best time to book summer holidays or other summer activities for my player?

Winnipeg summers are short and family time is important. As a result the general philosophy of the club has been to NOT participate in preseason tournaments which would require much earlier practice start dates and conflicts with other activities. We try to balance the motivation to give families as much summer holiday time as possible before practices with the need to ensure our players are prepared to play once the regular season begins.

For those families that have the option, booking summer holidays or other activities (such as summer camp) in the first few weeks of July helps to ensure there won't be missed practice time. However, we understand options can be limited and you may need to book holidays/activities later in the summer. The coaches will work with you as required.  Please note that each coach must keep the safety of all players in mind and ensure that a player is adequately prepared before playing in a tackle football game. Ideally players will be able to participate in as many practices as possible before the season begins in mid August.

Per the MMFA BY-Laws (ages 7-14) all practices and camps held during June and July must be optional for players to attend. No player shall be disciplined nor discriminated against for missing practice in June or July.
